Component
STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
Manufacturer
Ford Motor Company
What Happened
The electric power steering assist system in your vehicle helps make steering easier by using electric power. However, some vehicles may experience a faulty steering motor sensor that could shut down this system.
Risk if Unfixed
If your power steering assist fails, you'll need to use more effort to steer at low speeds. This could make it harder to control your vehicle, especially in tight spaces or emergency situations, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will check the Power Steering Control Module to see if there's a problem. If there is, they'll replace the steering gear for free. If not, they'll update the system's software for free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
