What Happened
The piston domes in your engine are the parts that move up and down inside the engine, helping it run smoothly. In some 2026 Explorers, Broncos, Broncos Sports, Mustangs, and Rangers, the domes may not have been made correctly, which could lead to a problem.
Risk if Unfixed
If a piston dome fails, you could lose power to your vehicle while driving, making it harder to control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will inspect your engine and replace the entire engine block if needed, all at no cost to you. You'll get a letter with instructions on how to schedule the repair, which will be done for free once the remedy is available in December 2026.

Original — What Happened
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2026 Explorer, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mustang, and Ranger vehicles. The engine piston domes may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in piston dome failure and lead to a loss of drive power.

Dealers will inspect the engine pistons and replace the engine long block, if necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed September 4, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in December 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S61.
