Component
VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD:CRITICAL FASTENERS
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The critical fasteners on your windshield help hold it in place and keep water out. In some 2026 X5, X5 Plug-in Hybrid, and X7 models, these fasteners may not be sealing properly, allowing water to enter your car.
Risk if Unfixed
If water gets into your car's electrical systems, it can cause lights to fail, including your headlights. This could make it harder to see at night or in low-light conditions, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, water could also cause a fire while parked or driving, which is a serious safety concern.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the windshield seal, fix any leaks, and replace any damaged vehicle control units or wiring — all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
