STEERING

Manufacturer
BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC
What Happened
The power steering system in your vehicle uses a gear that helps you turn the wheels. In some 2012-2013 X5 and X6 models, the gear's surface was machined incorrectly, which can cause power steering fluid to leak out.
Risk if Unfixed
If the power steering fluid leaks onto your exhaust system, it could catch fire, causing a potentially serious engine compartment fire.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the steering gear and replace it with a new one if necessary, all at no cost to you. You'll receive a notification about this recall, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.
