Component
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's fuel tank is a large container that holds gasoline. The inlet check valve is a small part that helps control the flow of fuel into the tank. In certain 2021 X3 and X4 models, this valve might not be welded correctly, which could cause it to fail and leak.
Risk if Unfixed
If the weld fails, fuel could leak out of the tank while you're driving, increasing the risk of a fire. A fire in the engine compartment could be serious, so it's crucial to address this issue right away.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the fuel tank with a new one, free of charge. This repair is already being handled for affected owners, but it's still a good idea to confirm with your dealer that it's been done.
