The front passenger seat occupant classification system in your vehicle is designed to tell the air bag if there's a person sitting in the seat. Sometimes, this system wasn't built right, which can cause it to think the seat is empty even if someone is sitting there.
Risk if Unfixed
If your air bag doesn't deploy in a crash because the system thinks the seat is empty, you could get hurt more seriously because you won't have the protection of the air bag.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the seat foam, which has the occupant classification system, with a new one that works correctly, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
