Component
VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's exterior rearview mirror is a safety device that shows you what's behind your car. On certain 2015 X3 and X4 models, the mirror was designed for other countries, not the US, so it doesn't meet American safety standards.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're driving and rely on this mirror, you might not realize when cars or other objects are closer than they appear, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the driver's side exterior rearview mirror with a new one that meets US safety standards - at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2015 X3 and X4 Sports Activity Vehicles manufactured July 28, 2014 to July 29, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been produced with a driver's side exterior rearview mirror that was designed to meet non-US market requirements. Original — Risk if Unfixed
The driver may not notice that vehicles viewed in the mirror are closer than they appear, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's side exterior rearview mirror, free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2014. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.
