What Happened
Your vehicle's seat belt warning system is a crucial safety feature that alerts you to fasten your seat belt. However, if you have a 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, or 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe, the software controlling this system might not work properly, so you won't hear the warning chime when you forget to buckle up.
Risk if Unfixed
If the warning chime doesn't sound, you might not realize you're not buckled in, which increases the risk of injury in a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your receiver audio module for free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice letter, which was mailed on October 12, 2023.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
