SEAT BELTS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The receiver audio module in your vehicle is the brain of your car's audio system. It's also responsible for reminding you to buckle your seatbelt. In some 2019-2022 models, the software in this module can fail to remind you to fasten your seatbelt.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you won't hear the usual seatbelt reminder chime. This increases the risk of injury in a crash because you might forget to buckle up.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in the receiver audio module for free. This is a quick, free repair that you should schedule as soon as you get the recall notice.

SEAT BELTS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) in your seat belt is a safety feature that helps keep the webbing tight during a crash. In some 2021 models, this feature might not work as intended, allowing the webbing to move freely before the seatbelt locks.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash and your seatbelt retractor fails, the seatbelt won't lock and could cause you to move forward and hit the dashboard or other objects in the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW or MINI dealer will inspect the seatbelt retractor and replace it with a new one if necessary, all at no cost to you. You'll get a recall notice soon, but you can also contact the dealer to schedule the repair.

What Happened
The power window control system in your 228i, 228i xDrive, or M235i xDrive is the part that handles the sunroof and windows. In some cases, it can keep the sunroof closed even after you've turned off the engine and locked the vehicle.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sunroof keeps closing after you've turned off the engine and locked the car, it could cause injury if you or a passenger tries to get out or if you're standing nearby.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the sunroof's computer software, so it stops closing the sunroof when you turn off the engine or lock the car. This update is free, and you'll be notified by BMW when it's time to schedule the repair.
