What Happened
The throttle positioning sensor in your vehicle helps your engine know how fast you're pressing the gas pedal. It's possible that the sensor, or the area around it, got dirty and might not be working properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, a warning light might come on, and your vehicle could unexpectedly go into a safe mode, which can cause it to slow down or lose some power. This could happen without warning while you're driving.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will update the software in your vehicle to ensure the sensor is working correctly, free of charge. You'll get a notice with more information on when to schedule the update.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A COMBINATION OF THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR IRREGULARITIES, A DIRTY THROTTLE HOUSING, AND/OR INEFFICIENT SOFTWARE CALIBRATION MAY CAUSE A WARNING LAMP TO LIGHT AND THE SUBSEQUENT ONSET OF LIMP HOME MODES.
