What Happened
The inflator in your airbag is the part that makes it deploy in a crash. In your 2001-2006 S80 or 2001-2009 S60, this inflator could explode if it's exposed to high humidity and heat for a long time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes, sharp metal pieces could fly towards you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator with a new one, completely free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice in the mail.

Original — What Happened
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver's air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 29, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10125.

The GPS system in your vehicle relies on a small Garmin device that uses a battery. In some cases, this battery can overheat and potentially catch fire.
Risk if Unfixed
If the battery overheats, it could ignite, causing a fire that could damage your vehicle or put you at risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the faulty battery with a new one and install a spacer to prevent future overheating — all at no cost to you. Just stop using the GPS device until the repair is done, and contact your dealer to schedule the free fix.

VOLVO IS RECALLING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH GARMIN 760 PORTABLE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) UNITS BECAUSE THE BATTERIES ON THOSE UNITS MAY OVERHEAT.

VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. THE UNIT'S BATTERY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND A SPACER WILL BE INSERTED ON TOP OF THE BATTERY NEXT TO THE PCB. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE.
