What Happened
The master cylinder is a critical part that helps control your vehicle's brakes. In some cases, the seal inside the master cylinder can fail and leak brake fluid.
Risk if Unfixed
If the master cylinder leaks brake fluid, your brakes won't work properly. This could lead to a collision, especially if you're driving at high speeds or have to stop suddenly.

The driver's air bag in your S80 or S60 is a safety device that deploys in a crash to protect you. In certain models, the air bag's explosive propellant can degrade over time, especially in humid and hot conditions.

If the air bag inflates and explodes, sharp metal fragments could fly towards you or other passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will replace the faulty driver's air bag for free. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible and follow the instructions in the recall notice you received on November 29, 2021.

Original — What Happened
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

The Garmin portable GPS unit in your vehicle uses a small battery to keep its maps and system running. In some cases, this battery can get too hot and cause a problem.

If the battery overheats, it could catch fire, which could cause damage to your vehicle or other property.
Free Fix
The recall is being handled by Garmin, not Volvo. You should stop using the GPS device immediately and visit the Garmin website to see if your unit is affected. If it is, Garmin will replace the battery and add a spacer for free.
