Component

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION:FRONT PASSENGER

Manufacturer
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
What Happened
The passenger occupant detection system in your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport is a sensor that helps your front passenger air bag deploy safely. In some 2018-2021 models, this system's wiring could be faulty, causing the air bag to shut off when someone sits in the passenger seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag is deactivated when a passenger is in the front seat, they won't have the extra protection in case of a crash, which could lead to serious injury.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will replace the faulty sensor mat and wiring harness with new, reliable parts – at no cost to you. Schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, which was sent to you on March 22, 2024.

Component

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Manufacturer
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
What Happened
The air bag wiring in your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport contains electrical contacts that can corrode and fail over time. This is a safety component that helps deploy the front side air bag in the event of a side crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If these contacts corrode, the air bag might not deploy quickly enough in a side impact crash. This can increase the risk of serious injury to you or your passengers.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will inspect and repair or replace the wiring harness to prevent corrosion and ensure the air bag deploys as intended, free of charge. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.
