Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Audi Q5 Sportback, Q5, 2022-2023 Volkswagen Atlas FL, and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The engine connecting rod bearings may become damaged, which can result in engine failure.

A damaged engine can result in engine failure and a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. If the engine failure causes an oil leak, it can increase the risk of a fire.

What Happened
Your Atlas FL or Atlas Cross Sport's fuel injectors are responsible for delivering the right amount of fuel to your engine. In some cases, the long fuel injectors on your 2021-2022 model may have been made without crucial filters, which could lead to problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the long fuel injectors on your vehicle leak fuel, it could start a fire, putting you and others at risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your authorized Volkswagen dealer will replace the long fuel injectors with new ones that include filters, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible after you receive the recall notice.

What Happened
The passenger occupant detection system in your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport is a sensor that helps the airbag decide whether to deploy. In some cases, this system's wiring could fail and prevent the front passenger airbag from working when someone is sitting in the seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the passenger airbag doesn't deploy during a crash, you could be at risk of serious injury, such as broken bones or head trauma.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will replace the faulty wiring and sensor mat in your passenger seat with new ones – free of charge. You'll get a recall notice, and you should schedule the repair as soon as you receive it.

The wiring harness in your side airbag system is responsible for sending electrical signals to the airbag. In some 2019-2023 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL models, the wiring can corrode and cause a problem.

If the wiring corrodes, your side airbag might not deploy quickly in a side impact crash, which could lead to serious injuries.

The rearview camera in your vehicle shows you what's behind you. But in some 2021-2022 VW models, a software glitch can prevent that camera image from displaying.
Risk if Unfixed
If your rearview camera isn't working, you won't have a clear view of what's behind you. This increases the risk of a crash when reversing or backing up.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will update the software in your infotainment system to fix the issue, and it's completely free. You'll get a letter with instructions on how to schedule the repair.

The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
