What Happened
Your vehicle may have the wrong wheel bolts installed, which can cause a wheel to come loose and increase the risk of a crash.

If your wheel detaches, you could be involved in a crash, which could result in injury or damage to your vehicle.
Free Fix
Do not drive your vehicle until it's fixed. A free repair will be done at the dealership to replace the wheel bolts with the correct ones.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2026 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4 vehicles. The incorrect wheel bolts may have been installed during vehicle manufacturing.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Incorrect wheel bolts can allow a wheel to detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been repaired. Dealers will inspect and replace the wheel bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 12, 2025. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 44BW. What Happened
Your Atlas Cross Sport or Atlas has a computer system that helps you see behind your vehicle when you're reversing. In some 2024-2026 models, this system can malfunction and fail to show the rearview camera image.
Risk if Unfixed
If the rearview camera image doesn't show up, you'll have a harder time seeing what's behind your vehicle, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will update the software controlling your rearview camera, so you'll have a clear view behind your vehicle again – and it's completely free. You should schedule the update as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling 2024-2026 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas vehicles. The vehicles may experience a low-voltage electrical event that affects display screen functions. As a result, the rearview camera image may fail to display as intended.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 4, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
