POWER TRAIN Safety Recalls

Critical #18V100000 Plain English
Component

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Manufacturer
Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
What Happened
Your vehicle's automatic transmission shift lever may not work properly if you press the brake pedal for a long time while the engine is running and the parking brake is engaged. This can cause the gearshift to move out of 'Park' without you meaning to.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could accidentally shift the transmission into gear and the vehicle might roll away, which could cause an accident or hurt someone.
Free Fix
Chrysler will fix this for free by updating the computer system and checking the shift lever. They'll do this at no cost to you, and you can contact them at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule the repair.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
Original — Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will update the Body Control Module software. Dealers will also test the BTSI operation, replacing the solenoid as necessary. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U11.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Manufacturer
Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
What Happened
The column shift in your vehicle is a lever that helps you switch between gears. It's connected to a pin that keeps the transmission from shifting out of the 'park' position unless the brake pedal is pressed.
Risk if Unfixed
If the pin gets stuck, you could accidentally shift the transmission into a different gear without meaning to, which could cause your vehicle to roll away. This could lead to a crash or injury.
Free Fix
Your Chrysler dealer will update the vehicle software, inspect the pin, and replace it if needed – all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT

Manufacturer
Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
What Happened
The differential unit in your Ram 1500 is a critical part that helps your wheels turn when you turn the steering wheel. In some 2016-2017 models, a small screw that holds the differential together might come loose while you're driving.
Risk if Unfixed
If the differential breaks or locks up, you could lose power to your wheels and struggle to control your vehicle. This could lead to a crash, especially if you're driving at high speeds or in heavy traffic.
Free Fix
Your dealer will inspect the differential and replace the retaining pin, which is a free repair. You'll get a notification when it's time to bring your truck in for the fix.
