What Happened
The Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) is a safety system that keeps you from accidentally shifting your transmission out of park. In some 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis models, pushing the brake pedal for a long time can cause this system to malfunction.
Risk if Unfixed
If the BTSI pin gets stuck, you could shift your transmission out of park without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition. This could cause your vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, putting you at risk of injury or a collision.
Free Fix
Your dealer will update the software in your vehicle's computer, and test the BTSI system to make sure it's working correctly. If needed, they'll replace a faulty solenoid – all of this is free, and you'll be notified when it's time to schedule the repair.
