What Happened
The check valve in your Sonata's fuel system is a small part that helps keep air out of the fuel tank. But if it's damaged, air can get in and cause problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel tank gets damaged by air, it could melt and leak fuel, which could cause a fire. This is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect and replace the faulty check valve, inspect the fuel tank for damage, and update the engine software to prevent future issues – all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Sonata vehicles. A damaged check valve can allow air to enter the fuel tank, causing it to expand and contact hot exhaust components, melting the tank.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A melted fuel tank can leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the check valve. The fuel tank assembly will be inspected for damage and replaced if necessary. Additionally, dealers will inspect and update the engine control unit software. All repairs will be performed as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 286. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 19, 2025.

What Happened
The fuel hose in your Santa Fe or Sonata is responsible for delivering gasoline from the high-pressure pump to your engine. In some 2021-2022 models with 2.5L turbocharged engines, this hose can develop a weak connection that could leak fuel.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel hose leaks, it could cause a fire. This is a serious risk that could lead to an accident or injury.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect the fuel hose connection and tighten it if it's loose, or replace the hose if it's damaged. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.
