What Happened
The transmission in your car is like a complex gearbox that helps your vehicle move. In some 2021-2022 Hyundai models, a tiny pump inside the transmission could fail, causing a 'fail-safe' mode to kick in.
Risk if Unfixed
If the transmission oil pump fails, your car could suddenly lose all power and stop moving. This could lead to a crash, especially if you're driving at high speeds or on uneven terrain.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect the transmission and replace it if needed, and update the transmission control unit software. This repair is completely free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe, Sonata, Veloster N, 2022 Santa Cruz, Elantra N, and Kona N vehicles. The vehicle's "fail-safe" limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, when prompted by a transmission oil pump malfunction, which can result in a complete loss of drive power.

Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission, as necessary. Dealers will also update the transmission control unit software. All repairs will be performed free of charge.
