Component

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

Manufacturer
Hyundai Motor America
What Happened
The check valve in your Sonata's fuel system is like a safety valve that prevents air from entering the tank. But if it's damaged, air can sneak in and cause the tank to overheat, potentially melting the plastic.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel tank melts, it can leak fuel, which increases the risk of a fire. This could happen while you're driving, and a fire in the engine compartment can be extremely dangerous.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect and replace the faulty check valve, inspect the fuel tank for damage, and update the engine control unit software — all for free.
