What Happened
The chassis electronic module in your vehicle is like a central hub that controls many of your car's systems. It might have gotten contaminated inside, which could cause a short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the module fails, your vehicle could suddenly stall while you're driving — you might lose power steering and brakes, which could make it harder to control your vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the faulty electronic module with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

Manufacturer
General Motors LLC
What Happened
The ignition switch is a critical part in your vehicle that keeps the engine running and the airbags ready to deploy in case of a crash. In some 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX models, the switch can move out of the 'run' position if it's jostled by heavy keys, rough roads, or other factors.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ignition switch isn't in the 'run' position, your airbags might not deploy in a crash, which could lead to serious injury.
Free Fix
Your dealership will install a new key ring and a protective cover or insert in the key slot, free of charge, to prevent the ignition switch from moving out of position. This fix is necessary to ensure your airbags work properly in an emergency.

Original — What Happened
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.
