What Happened
The driver's air bag in your vehicle is designed to deploy in case of a crash to protect you. However, in some affected models, the air bag inflator may be faulty and could fail to work properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes during a crash, sharp metal fragments could hit you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty driver's air bag with a new one, at no cost to you. This repair is a top priority, so schedule it as soon as possible when you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2015 6 Series Gran Coupe, 2014 5 Series Gran Turismo, 2014 5 Series Sedan, 2015 6 Series Convertible, 2015 6 Series Coupe, 2014 X5, 2013-2014 X3, 2014-2015 3 Series Sedan, 2014 4 Series Coupe, 2014 4 Series Convertible, 2014 3 Series Gran Turismo, and 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe vehicles. Please see the recall report for the complete list of models. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to a manufacturing defect.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury or death.
Original — Remedy
The driver's front air bag will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The driver's airbag in your vehicle is designed to deploy in the event of a severe crash. However, in some 2014-2015 BMW models, a manufacturing defect could cause the airbag to malfunction and explode.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag inflator explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments flying into you or your passengers, leading to serious injuries or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty driver's airbag with a new one, at no cost to you. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.
