Component
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV)
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The PCV valve in your engine helps keep the air in your engine clean by recirculating gases. The heater for this valve can short circuit and cause a fire, even when your car's turned off.
Risk if Unfixed
If the PCV valve's heater short circuits, it could melt and cause a fire, even when your car's parked and turned off. This increases the risk of a fire, which could spread to other parts of your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty PCV valve heater with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible.
