VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Safety Recalls

Under Review #03V124000 Plain English
Component

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Manufacturer
BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE
What Happened
The idle speed control system in your vehicle helps keep the engine running smoothly when you're stopped. In some 2003 models, this system can malfunction, causing the engine to rev up to 1,300 RPM when the vehicle is stationary.
Risk if Unfixed
When this happens, if you shift into gear, you might feel like the vehicle is being pushed or accelerated unexpectedly. This could be unsettling and might make it harder to control the vehicle.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will reprogram the computer that controls the engine, so it runs smoothly and quietly. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice, ideally by May 5, 2003.
