What Happened
The throttle position sensor helps your car know how far you've pressed the gas pedal. In some 2006 Volvo models, this sensor can get dirty or misread, causing issues with how your car accelerates.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your warning lights may come on and your car could shift into 'limp mode' without warning, making it harder to drive. This could happen while you're driving at any speed.

Your Volvo dealer will update the software in your car to fix this issue, and it's free. You should schedule the update as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A COMBINATION OF THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR IRREGULARITIES, A DIRTY THROTTLE HOUSING, AND/OR INEFFICIENT SOFTWARE CALIBRATION MAY CAUSE A WARNING LAMP TO LIGHT AND THE SUBSEQUENT ONSET OF LIMP HOME MODES.

THIS RESULTED IN A HIGH NUMBER OF VEHICLES GOING INTO THE LIMP HOME MODE WITHOUT NEED.
