What Happened
Your vehicle has a throttle positioning sensor that helps your car know how fast you're going. Sometimes, this sensor can get dirty or have problems, and the computer might think your car is moving at the wrong speed.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, a warning light will turn on, and your car might shift into a 'limp home mode' without warning, which means it will try to get you to a safe place but won't be running at its best. This could cause you to lose some power and control while driving.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will update your car's software to fix the problem, and this service is free. You should schedule the update as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A COMBINATION OF THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR IRREGULARITIES, A DIRTY THROTTLE HOUSING, AND/OR INEFFICIENT SOFTWARE CALIBRATION MAY CAUSE A WARNING LAMP TO LIGHT AND THE SUBSEQUENT ONSET OF LIMP HOME MODES.

THIS RESULTED IN A HIGH NUMBER OF VEHICLES GOING INTO THE LIMP HOME MODE WITHOUT NEED.
