What Happened
The brake caliper bracket is a critical part that keeps your brake caliper securely attached to your wheel. In some 2017-2018 Passat and 2018 Atlas models, the bracket bolts weren't tightened enough.
Risk if Unfixed
If the bolts aren't tight, your brake caliper could move, making it harder to stop the vehicle. This could lead to a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will inspect the brake system, tighten any loose bolts, and replace or re-torque them if needed – all for free. You'll also get a check on your brake cable and hoses, and any necessary adjustments will be made for free.

Original — What Happened
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and 2017-2018 Volkswagen Passat vehicles. The brake caliper bracket mounting bolts on these vehicles may not have been tightened sufficiently.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
The loose brake bracket bolts can allow the caliper to move, reducing braking ability or causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake caliper bracket bolt tightness, replacing and re-torque the bolts as necessary, free of charge. Additionally brake caliper fasteners, bleeder valve, and brake hose bolts will be checked and torqued to the correct specification, if necessary, free of charge. For Passat vehicles, dealers will also inspect the parking brake cable for proper connection, free of charge. The recall began September 14, 2018. What Happened
The brake caliper is a crucial part that helps your vehicle stop safely. In some 2018 Volkswagen and Audi models, the coating on the caliper pistons might be too thin, affecting how well your brakes work.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake performance is reduced, you could experience longer stopping distances, which increases the risk of a crash. This could happen when you press the brake pedal harder or when driving on slippery roads.
Free Fix
Your authorized Volkswagen or Audi dealer will inspect and bleed your brake calipers to ensure they're working properly – free of charge. Until then, it's recommended not to drive your vehicle. You'll be notified when the repair is ready, and you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

The brake caliper pistons on these vehicles may have insufficient coating, potentially reducing the brake performance.

Volkswagen and Audi will notify their owners. Audi dealers will bleed the rear brakes. Volkswagen dealers will bleed the front and rear brake calipers. Note: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the brake system has been checked. The recall began June 29, 2018.
