What Happened
The springs in your Yaris or Scion xD's seat rails are like tiny metal coils that help hold your seat in place. In some 2006-2010 models, these springs can break.
Risk if Unfixed
If the spring breaks, your seat might not stay locked in place. In a crash, this could cause you to move around in your seat, increasing the risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your Toyota dealer will check the seat rail springs, and if they're broken, they'll replace them with new ones – free of charge. You should schedule a visit as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Yaris vehicles manufactured August 22, 2005, through May 12, 2010, and 2008-2010 Scion xD vehicles manufactured April 4, 2007, through May 12, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the springs used for the seat rails on the driver's seat and the seat rails of the front passenger seat of three-door models may break.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
If the spring breaks, the seat may not lock in position. In the event of a vehicle crash, the seat could move increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Original — Remedy
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat rail, and replace it with a new one, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on July 3, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
