What Happened
The brake lines in your vehicle are the tubes that carry brake fluid from the master cylinder to the wheels. In certain models of Subaru vehicles, these lines can corrode if salt water gets in through a gap in the fuel tank protector.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake lines corrode, brake fluid could leak out. This might make it harder to stop your vehicle, especially on hills or long distances, and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will inspect the brake system for any signs of fluid leaks. If everything checks out, they'll apply a protective coating to the affected areas. If there's a leak, they'll replace the brake lines and apply the protective coating too – all at no cost to you.

(Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Outback and Legacy, 2008-2011 Impreza and 2008-2014 Impreza WRX/STI, and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, currently, or formerly, registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Salt water could splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector, resulting in excessive corrosion of the brake lines. Note that affected vehicles not currently, or formerly registered, in the salt belt states identified above are eligible for repair, at no cost to the customer, upon request.

Original — Remedy
Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will test the brake system by depressing the brake pedal and inspecting for brake fluid leaks. If no brake fluid seepage is observed, the affected areas will be rustproofed with anti-corrosion wax. If brake fluid seepage is observed, the brake lines will be replaced followed by rustproofing with anti-corrosion wax. These services will be performed free of charge. The recall began July 2014 and second notifications will run through November 2014. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's recall campaign number is WQK-47. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-110 which applied to certain 2005-2009 Legacy/Outback vehicles. Vehicles that were remedied under the previous campaign still need additional areas rust-proofed.

What Happened
The brake lines in your Outback or Legacy are the tubes that carry brake fluid to your wheels. In certain 2005-2009 models, salt water from the roads in specific states could seep under the fuel tank and corrode these lines.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake lines corrode, they could start leaking brake fluid. This means you'll need to press the brake pedal harder and longer to slow down, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will inspect your vehicle for brake fluid leaks. If there's no leak, they'll apply a special coating to protect the area from corrosion. If there is a leak, they'll replace the brake lines and apply the coating – both of these services are free for you.

What Happened
The ignition switch in your vehicle is the part that turns the engine on and off. In some older Subaru models, the switch might wear out over time, causing it to lose its strength and possibly shut off the engine when you're driving.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ignition switch fails, your engine could suddenly turn off while you're driving, which could lead to a crash. If a crash happens, the airbag might not deploy, putting you at greater risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will inspect the ignition switch and replace it if it's weak. This repair is free of charge, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.

The relay in your vehicle controls the secondary air injection pump, which helps clean the air your engine breathes. In certain years and models, this relay can fail, causing the pump to keep running and overheat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air injection pump overheats, it could melt, which is a serious fire hazard. This could happen while you're driving, putting you and others at risk.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will replace the faulty relay with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
