What Happened
The brake lines in your Outback or Legacy are the tubes that carry brake fluid to your wheels. In certain 2005-2009 models, salt water from the roads in specific states could seep under the fuel tank and corrode these lines.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake lines corrode, they could start leaking brake fluid. This means you'll need to press the brake pedal harder and longer to slow down, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will inspect your vehicle for brake fluid leaks. If there's no leak, they'll apply a special coating to protect the area from corrosion. If there is a leak, they'll replace the brake lines and apply the coating – both of these services are free for you.
