Component
AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION:FRONT PASSENGER
Manufacturer
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
What Happened
The sensor in your front passenger seat helps the airbag system decide whether to deploy during a crash. In certain Lexus models with the Executive Package, this sensor might get jammed by internal parts, causing it to misread the seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sensor thinks there's no one in the seat, the airbag might not deploy when it should, or might deploy too late. This could lead to serious injury in a crash.
Free Fix
Your Lexus dealer will inspect and fix the front passenger seat to ensure the sensor works correctly – free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Lexus LS500 and 2018-2020 Lexus LS500 Hybrid vehicles equipped with the "Executive Package." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Incorrect detection of an occupant may result in improper air bag deployment during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
