Component

AIR BAGS

Manufacturer
Kia Motors America
What Happened
The Air Bag Control Unit in your vehicle is a critical component that helps deploy the airbags in case of an accident. In some 2017-2019 Kia models, the cover for this unit could touch a sensitive part and damage it, which would leave you without working airbags if you get into a crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbags don't deploy as intended, you could be at greater risk of injury in a collision. This is because the airbags help cushion the impact and protect you from serious harm.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will inspect the Air Bag Control Unit and either update its software or replace it, free of charge. This will ensure your airbags are working properly, and you should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — Risk if Unfixed
Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will inspect the ACU, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 21, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC226.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Manufacturer
Kia Motors America
What Happened
The wiring harness under your Sedona's front passenger seat helps the airbag system decide whether to deploy the front passenger airbag. Over time, this harness can break if the seat is occupied, especially by a child in a car seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the harness breaks, the front passenger airbag could deploy even if a child is sitting in a car seat, which could increase the risk of serious injury to the child.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will remove the wire harness clip to prevent it from breaking, and if the harness is already damaged, they'll replace the front passenger seat cushion – all at no cost to you.

Original — What Happened
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Sedona vehicles equipped with manually-adjusted front passenger seats. Over time, the Occupant Detection System (ODS) wiring harness located underneath the front passenger seat may break from the seat being occupied.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
If a child is in a child seat in the front seat, a broken ODS wiring harness will not prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the child.
Original — Remedy
Kia will notify owners, and dealers will remove the wire harness clip to prevent the wiring harness from breaking. If the harness is found damaged, the front passenger seat cushion will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC175.
