EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL

Manufacturer
Kia Motors America
What Happened
Your Sedona's turn signal system has a small computer that helps the turn signals work properly. In some 2015-2017 models, this computer might not understand the signals correctly, causing the turn signal to flash in the wrong direction.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could signal to other drivers that you're turning in the opposite direction, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will update the computer software for free, so you can feel confident in your vehicle's turn signals working correctly. This repair is complimentary, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Sedona vehicles. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) software logic may not properly interpret the signals received from the multifunction switch, which could cause the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A turn signal activating in the opposite direction of what was intended by the driver increases the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will update the SJB software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 12, 2021. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC217.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Manufacturer
Kia Motors America
What Happened
The wire harness under your Sedona's front passenger seat helps the airbag system decide whether to deploy or not. Over time, this wire can break if the seat is occupied, especially by a child in a car seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the wire breaks, the airbag might deploy even if a child is sitting in the front seat, which could cause serious injury to the child in a crash.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will remove the wire harness clip to prevent it from breaking, and if it's already damaged, they'll replace the front passenger seat cushion at no cost to you.

Original — Risk if Unfixed
If a child is in a child seat in the front seat, a broken ODS wiring harness will not prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the child.
Original — Remedy
Kia will notify owners, and dealers will remove the wire harness clip to prevent the wiring harness from breaking. If the harness is found damaged, the front passenger seat cushion will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC175.
