What Happened
The occupant restraint controller module is a computer that helps control your air bags during a crash. In some 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models, this computer's software may not work correctly, which could delay the deployment of the side air bags.
Risk if Unfixed
If your air bags don't deploy on time during a side impact, you're at a higher risk of injury. This is because the air bags are designed to help protect you in a crash, and delayed deployment could leave you more vulnerable.
Free Fix
Your authorized Jeep dealer will update the software in the occupant restraint controller module free of charge. This should be done as soon as you receive the recall notice, which is expected to be mailed on June 11, 2026.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. A software error in the occupant restraint controller module may cause the delayed deployment of the side air bags during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Dealers will update the occupant restraint controller module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 11, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on May 28, 2026.
