Component
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Manufacturer
Hyundai Motor America
What Happened
The check valve in your Sonata is a small part that helps prevent air from getting into your fuel tank. In some 2020-2023 models, this valve can get damaged, allowing air to enter the tank and cause problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air gets into your fuel tank, it can expand and melt the tank, which could cause a leak. This increases the risk of a fire, especially since the melted tank will be in contact with hot exhaust components.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect and replace the damaged check valve, and also check your fuel tank for damage. They'll update your engine control unit software to prevent similar issues in the future – all of this will be done at no cost to you.
