FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The CNG tank is the part that stores compressed natural gas in your vehicle. It's located in the rear seat area, and its design relies on a pressure relief device to vent gas in case of an emergency.
Risk if Unfixed
If there's a severe fire near the rear seat, the CNG tank could be heated unevenly. This could cause the tank to rupture, leading to an explosion and possibly ejecting the tank from the vehicle.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will install a heat-insulating material to the rear seat back — this is a free repair. You'll be notified when parts are available to complete the fix.
Show original NHTSA language
Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) VEHICLES, IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE INTERIOR FIRE IN THE AREA OF THE REAR SEAT, THE CNG TANK MAY BE HEATED UNEVENLY, PREVENTING THE PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICE FROM VENTING THE CONTENTS OF THE TANK AS DESIGNED.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS COULD RESULT IN A TANK RUPTURE, EXPLOSION, AND EJECTION OF THE TANK FROM THE VEHICLE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A HEAT INSULATOR MATERIAL TO THE REAR SEAT BACK. AN INTERIM OWNER LETTER WAS MAILED TO OWNERS BEGINNING NOVEMBER 26, 2007. WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, OWNERS WILL BE RENOTIFIED ASKING THEM TO BRING IN THEIR VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RING

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The wheel speed sensor in your vehicle helps the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control work properly. The sensor is housed in a special part that might not seal properly if it's assembled incorrectly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the seal fails, water can get into the wheel bearing, causing it to wear out and potentially loosen. If you keep driving, the bearing could fail, and a wheel could come loose, increasing the risk of a serious crash.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will inspect the rear ABS sensors and wheel bearings, replace any damaged parts, and do it all for free. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.
Show original NHTSA language
Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The brake light switch is a small switch that helps turn your brake lights on and off when you press the brake pedal. Over time, extra lubricant from the steering column could drip onto this switch and cause it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch fails, your brake lights won't turn on, making it harder for others to see when you're slowing down or stopped. This could increase the risk of a rear-end collision, and in some cases, you might not be able to shift your transmission out of park.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will replace the faulty brake light switch and add a protective cover to prevent future issues – all for free. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible and follow up with the recall notice.
Show original NHTSA language
Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN SEDAN AND HYBRID (CNG) VEHICLES, DURING ASSEMBLY, THE TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN MECHANISM MAY HAVE BEEN OVER-LUBRICATED WITH SILICONE GREASE. OVER TIME, SOME OF THIS EXTRA GREASE MAY DRIP ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAUSING THE SWITCH TO FAIL.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
FAILURE MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS AND AN INCREASED RISK THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE STRUCK IN THE REAR. IN ADDITION, A FAILED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH COULD PREVENT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE PARK POSITION (VEHICLES WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION).
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND INSTALL A PROTECTIVE COVER OVERTHE SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 2, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
