STEERING

Manufacturer
Ford Motor Company
What Happened
The steering system in your vehicle has a lower intermediate shaft that helps connect the steering wheel to the wheels. Over time, this shaft can corrode severely in certain regions, like the Northeast and Midwest.
Risk if Unfixed
If the lower intermediate shaft seizes from corrosion, it could cause a serious problem: you might lose control of your vehicle, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will replace the lower intermediate shaft with a new one, free of charge. They'll also check the upper intermediate shaft and steering column lower bearing for any damage caused by corrosion and repair or replace them as needed. If the lower bearing has separated, they'll install a special retainer clip to secure it.
