What Happened
The front passenger knee air bag in your vehicle is a safety feature that deploys to cushion your knee in a crash. On certain 2023-2024 BMW models, this air bag might not work as designed.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag doesn't deploy properly in a crash, you're at a higher risk of serious injury to your knee and other parts of your body.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty front passenger knee air bag with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 BMW XM, 2024 BMW X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 M60i, X5 M, X5 xDrive50e, X6 xDrive40i, X6 M60i, X6 M, X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i, and Alpina XB7 vehicles. The front passenger knee air bag may not deploy as intended.

Dealers will replace the front passenger knee air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 3, 2023. Owners may contact BMW's customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
