BMW IS RECALLING 2,500 MY 2008-2009 M3 PASSENGER VEHICLES WITH AN OPTIONAL DOUBLE CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM INVOLVES THE DOUBLE CLUTCH GEARBOX. IN A SITUATION OF RAPID VEHICLE DECELERATION, THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE MAY PERFORM A MULTISTAGE DOWNSHIFT.

What Happened
The driver airbag in your vehicle is a safety device that deploys to protect you in a crash. Unfortunately, a type of airbag inflator in some older BMW models could explode, causing sharp metal fragments to fly towards you and potentially cause serious injury or death.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag inflator explodes, you could be hit by sharp metal fragments that could cause serious injury or death. This is a critical safety risk that you should address immediately.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator or the entire airbag, depending on your vehicle, at no cost to you. The repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.
