SEAT BELTS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's passenger seat belt has a part called the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR), which helps keep you safe by locking the belt in place during a crash. In some of these vehicles, this part doesn't work correctly and can unlock too early, leaving you without the full protection of the seat belt.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash and the seat belt retractor fails, the belt might not keep you securely in place. This increases the risk of serious injury, because you could be thrown around inside the vehicle or even ejected.
Free Fix
Your BMW or MINI dealer will inspect the seat belt and retractor, and if necessary, replace them with new ones that work correctly. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
