What Happened
The starter assembly in your vehicle is the part that helps your engine turn over when you turn the key. In certain 2023-2024 models, the starter can overheat and catch fire due to wear on an internal component.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter overheats, it could catch fire, which increases the risk of serious injury and damage to your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW or Toyota dealer will replace the engine starter with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice, and you can contact the dealerships at 1-800-525-7417 or 1-800-331-4331 for more information.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Toyota Supra, 2022-2025 2 Series Coupe, 2021-2023 5 Series, 2022-2026 Z4, 2023-2024 4 Series Gran Coupe, 4 Series Convertible, 4 Series Coupe, 3 Series, 2021-2025 X4, and 2021-2024 X3 vehicles. Dealers will replace the engine starter, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 28, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 28, 2026. This recall is an expansion of previous NHTSA recall 26V056.

What Happened
The starter motor in your vehicle is responsible for turning the engine on and off. In some 2021-2024 models, an internal component can wear out, causing the starter to overheat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter motor overheats, it could catch fire, which increases the risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the faulty starter motor with a new one, free of charge. You'll receive a letter when the repair is ready, and you can also call BMW or Toyota customer service to find out more.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BODY CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE

What Happened
Your vehicle's Body Control Module, or the computer that controls various functions like locking your doors, may have gotten the wrong software update during a recent service visit. This could cause your doors to not lock as they should when you're driving.
Risk if Unfixed
If your doors don't lock like they should, they could open during a crash, which could lead to serious injury to you or your passengers.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your Body Control Module for free. You should schedule the fix as soon as you get the recall notice, and it's completely free to you.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, M340i xDrive, M3, 330e, 330e xDrive, 430i Convertible, 430i xDrive, M440i, 2022-2023 430i, 430i xDrive, M440i xDrive, i4 eDrive40, and i4 M50 vehicles. During a service visit, a replacement electronic control unit (ECU) may have been installed with incorrect programming, which can cause the automatic door locking (ADL) function to not lock the doors as intended.

Doors that do not lock as intended while the vehicle is in motion may open during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
