What Happened
The water pump in your vehicle helps keep your engine cool. In some affected models, the electrical connector on this pump might not be sealed properly, letting water in and causing a short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the electrical connection gets wet and shorts, it could cause a fire while you're driving, which is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the water pump and electrical connector, replace them if needed, and add a protective shield to prevent future issues – all for free.

(BMW) is recalling certain 2012-2015 X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, 2012-2016 Z4 sDrive28i, 528i, 528i xDrive, 328i, 328xi, 2016-2018 X5 xdrive 40e, 2014-2016 228i, 228xi, 428i, 428i xDrive, 328xi Gran Turismo, 2013-2017 X3 sDrive28i, X3 xDrive28i, 2015-2018 X4 xDrive28i, 2015-2016 428xi vehicles. An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.

What Happened
The airbag in your driver's side is a safety device designed to protect you in the event of a crash. In some 2006-2011 3 Series BMW models, the original airbag inflator was replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel inflator that can fail and explode during deployment.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments flying into the driver's face or body, which could cause serious injury or even be fatal.

You should schedule a free inspection and replacement of the driver's airbag module at your local BMW dealership as soon as you receive the recall notice. This service is completely free, so don't hesitate to take care of it.

The original steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel equipped with an inflator that can explode during deployment.

What Happened
The air bag in your vehicle is a safety device that deploys to protect you in a crash. In some older models, the driver's air bag may have a faulty inflator that could rupture and send sharp metal fragments flying.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag inflator explodes, it could spray sharp metal pieces into the driver's face or body, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty air bag inflator with a new one, free of charge. This repair is completely covered, so you shouldn't have to pay a thing.

These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

What Happened
Your BMW's side marker lights are small lights on the front corners of your vehicle that help make it visible to other drivers at night. In some 2012-2015 models, the software that controls these lights got mixed up, making them turn off when the parking lights or headlights are on.
Risk if Unfixed
If the side marker lights don't light up when driving at night, your vehicle could be harder to see, increasing the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software controlling your side marker lights to fix the issue – and it won't cost you a thing. Schedule the repair when you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, and ActiveHybrid3 vehicles manufactured October 20, 2011, to June 22, 2015, 2014-2015 328xi Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured March 21, 2013, to March 17, 2015, 2014-2015 328d, 328xd vehicles manufactured June 28, 2013, to April 21, 2015, and 2014-2015 328xd Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured July 5, 2013, to April 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
