Component
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
Manufacturer
BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE
What Happened
The brake light switch in your vehicle controls the brake lights when you press the brake pedal. In some cases, this switch can malfunction and stay on or off all the time.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your brake lights might not turn on when you press the brake pedal, or they'll stay on even when the pedal is released. This could make it harder for other drivers to notice when you're slowing down, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision.
Free Fix
Your dealer will inspect and replace the brake light switch with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

Original — What Happened
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE CONTROLLED BY A SWITCH ACTIVATED BY THE MOVEMENT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS SWITCH COULD FAIL INTERNALLY, CAUSING IT TO REMAIN EITHER IN THE "BRAKE LAMPS OFF" POSITION OR IN THE "BRAKE LAMPS ON" POSITION.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IF THIS HAPPENS, THE BRAKE LAMPS EITHER WILL NOT OPERATE OR WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED, REGARDLESS OF BRAKE PEDAL POSITION.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE EXISTING BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WITH AN IMPROVED SWITCH.
