What Happened
The water pump in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps keep your engine cool. In certain models, there's a risk that the electrical connector on this pump could get damaged and short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the electrical connector gets wet and short circuits, it could cause a fire in your engine compartment, which is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the water pump and electrical connector, replace them if necessary, and add a protective shield to prevent future damage – all at no cost to you. You'll receive a recall notice with instructions on how to schedule the fix.

An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.

What Happened
The driver's air bag is a safety feature that deploys in a crash to protect you. In some of your BMW models, the air bag's inflator could fail and explode when it deploys, causing sharp metal shards to hit you or a passenger.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could be seriously hurt or even killed by flying metal fragments. This is a life-threatening situation, and you should have the repair done as soon as possible.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty air bag inflator at no cost to you. This is a free repair, and you should schedule it after receiving your recall notice.

What Happened
The side and window airbags in your vehicle are designed to deploy in the event of a crash to protect you from injury. However, in some 2014-2015 models, the inflator that makes the airbag work may not be attached properly, which could cause it to leak or rupture.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator ruptures, sharp metal fragments could fly into the vehicle, putting you at risk of serious injury. If the inflator leaks, the airbag may not work properly during a crash, also increasing the risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety.

The head air bag inflator may fail at the weld joint, which can cause gas to leak from the inflator or result in an inflator rupture.

An inflator that ruptures may cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, an inflator that leaks gas may only partially inflate during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

What Happened
The side marker lights on your BMW are the small lights on the front of the vehicle that help make it visible to other drivers at night. In certain 2012-2015 models, the software controlling these lights might not turn them on when the parking lights or headlights are on.
Risk if Unfixed
If the side marker lights don't turn on, your vehicle might be harder to see at night, which could increase the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your vehicle's computer to fix the issue, and you won't be charged for the repair. You'll be notified by BMW when the update is ready, and you should schedule the service as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
BMW North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, and ActiveHybrid3 vehicles manufactured October 20, 2011, to June 22, 2015, 2014-2015 328xi Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured March 21, 2013, to March 17, 2015, 2014-2015 328d, 328xd vehicles manufactured June 28, 2013, to April 21, 2015, and 2014-2015 328xd Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured July 5, 2013, to April 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
