What Happened
The water pump in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps keep your engine cool. It's the one that circulates coolant through your engine. In some of your 2012-2018 models, the electrical connection on this pump might not be sealed properly, which could let water in and cause a short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the electrical connection gets wet and shorts, it could cause a fire in your engine compartment. This is a serious situation that could damage your engine or even lead to a fire.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the water pump and its electrical connector, replace them if needed, and add a protective shield to prevent future issues. This repair is completely free for you, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

The vacuum pump in your vehicle helps assist your brakes with power. In certain BMW models, this pump might not get enough lubrication, which could cause it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake vacuum pump fails, you'll notice a decrease in braking power. This could make it harder to stop your vehicle, especially in an emergency situation, and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will install a locking ring to keep the camshaft seal in place, ensuring proper lubrication and preventing the pump from failing. This repair is completely free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

BMW North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, and ActiveHybrid3 vehicles manufactured October 20, 2011, to June 22, 2015, 2014-2015 328xi Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured March 21, 2013, to March 17, 2015, 2014-2015 328d, 328xd vehicles manufactured June 28, 2013, to April 21, 2015, and 2014-2015 328xd Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured July 5, 2013, to April 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
