STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR:HANDLE:EXTERIOR

Manufacturer
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
What Happened
Your ID.4's exterior door handle is designed to keep water out of the electronics. Unfortunately, some 2021-2022 models were made with a flaw that lets water in, which can cause the doors to open by themselves when the car is hit from the side at low speeds.
Risk if Unfixed
If your door opens unexpectedly while you're driving, you risk getting injured if you're not wearing a seatbelt, or if someone in the vehicle isn't properly restrained.
Free Fix
Your authorized Volkswagen dealer will update the vehicle software and inspect the door handles, if needed, at no cost to you. Schedule an appointment as soon as you get the recall notice.
