Component

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY

Manufacturer
TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
What Happened
The fuel pressure sensor in your vehicle is a small part that helps control how much fuel goes to your engine. Unfortunately, some models from 2006-2007 Lexus IS and GS vehicles have a sensor that wasn't tightened properly, which could cause it to loosen over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sensor loosens, fuel could leak out and, if there's an ignition source nearby, it could cause a fire.
Free Fix
Your Lexus dealer will check for any fuel leaks and tighten the sensor properly. If there is a leak, they'll replace the gasket and tighten the sensor again – all for free.

Original — What Happened
TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2009 LEXUS IS AND MODEL YEAR 2006-2007 LEXUS GS VEHICLES. DUE TO INSUFFICIENT TIGHTENING OF THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR CONNECTED TO AN ENGINE FUEL DELIVERY PIPE WITH NICKEL PHOSPHORUS PLATING, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT, OVER TIME, THE PRESSURE SENSOR COULD LOOSEN. IF LOOSENING OCCURS, FUEL COULD LEAK PAST A GASKET USED IN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND THE PIPE AND THROUGH THE THREADED PORTION OF THE SENSOR.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAKAGE FROM THE THREADED PORTION OF THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AND IF A FUEL LEAK IS NOT CONFIRMED, DEALERS WILL FURTHER TIGHTEN THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WITH THE PROPER TORQUE. IF A FUEL LEAK IS CONFIRMED, THE GASKET BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND THE FUEL DELIVER PIPE WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE, AND THE SENSOR WILL BE TIGHTENED WITH THE PROPER TORQUE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 7, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Manufacturer
TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
What Happened
Your vehicle's fuel delivery pipes, which carry gasoline from the engine to the fuel injectors, are made of aluminum and can corrode when exposed to low-moisture ethanol gasoline. This is a common issue with some 2006-2008 Lexus models.
Risk if Unfixed
Over time, the corrosion can create a small hole in the pipe, causing fuel to leak out. If this leak is near an ignition source, like the engine, it could lead to a fire.
Free Fix
Your Toyota/Lexus dealer will inspect and replace the fuel delivery pipes with new ones, at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

ETHANOL FUELS WITH A LOW MOISTURE CONTENT WILL CORRODE THE INTERNAL SURFACE OF THE FUEL RAILS. AS THIS CONDITION PROGRESSES, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
OVER TIME, THE CORROSION MAY CREATE A PINHOLE RESULTING IN FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Original — Remedy
