What Happened
The rear center seat belt buckle in your Kona Electric or Kona is the part that helps keep passengers safe in the back seat. In some 2025 and 2026 models, this buckle might not lock properly in a crash.

If the buckle fails to lock in a crash, you or your passengers could get hurt because the seat belt won't hold you in place. This is a serious safety risk that could lead to injury.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the faulty seat belt buckle with a new one, at no cost to you. Until then, it's best not to use the rear center seat. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025 Kona Electric and 2026 Kona vehicles. The seat belt buckle in the rear center seat may fail to properly restrain an occupant during a crash.

A seat belt buckle that fails to properly restrain an occupant in a crash increases the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Passengers are advised not to use the rear center seat until the recall remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 11, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 306. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 15, 2026.
