What Happened
Your vehicle may have a faulty driveshaft that can break, causing problems with steering and, in some cases, braking. This is a hydraulic pump that's part of the power steering system.
Risk if Unfixed
If the pump breaks, you may need to work harder to steer your vehicle, and in some cases, you may need to press the brake pedal harder to stop. However, you won't lose the ability to steer or stop completely.
Free Fix
Don't worry, this is a free fix. The dealership will replace the faulty pump, and it's been happening since February 14, 2005. You can contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463 to schedule the repair.

SOME PICKUP TRUCKS, VANS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A HYDRAULIC PUMP DRIVESHAFT THAT CAN FRACTURE, RESULTING IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKES, THE SAME CONDITION CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR BRAKING AFTER THE RESERVE PRESSURE IS DEPLETED.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

What Happened
Your vehicle has a power steering system issue with a hose that might disconnect from a switch. This could cause power steering fluid to leak onto hot engine parts, leading to a fire.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, there's a risk of an engine compartment fire, which could cause serious damage or even injury.

A free repair is available at your local dealership, where they'll check the hose connections and replace any non-screw type clamps to ensure your safety.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR THREE SCREW CLAMPS TO THE POWER STEERING HOSE JOINTS. IF THE CLAMPS ARE NOT THE SCREW TYPE, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLAMPS.
