FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Manufacturer
Ford Motor Company
What Happened
The Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) in your 2010-2012 Ford Escape or 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner is like a fuel tank's valve that controls the flow of gasoline to your engine. In some cases, it can crack and leak fuel.
Risk if Unfixed
If the FDM cracks and leaks fuel, you could be at risk of a fire if there's an ignition source nearby, like a spark from another vehicle or a lit cigarette.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will replace the faulty FDM flange with a new one that's designed to prevent leaks, and this repair is free. You'll get a second notice when the new parts become available, and in the meantime, you can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

Manufacturer
Ford Motor Company
What Happened
The steering torque sensor in your vehicle is a critical component that helps the power steering system detect the direction you're steering. In some 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner models, this sensor might not work properly, which could disable the power steering assist.
Risk if Unfixed
If power steering assist is lost, you'll need to use more effort to steer the vehicle at low speeds, which could make it harder to control the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will update the software for the power steering system, which includes the steering control module and the instrument cluster, at no cost to you. They'll also replace any faulty components if they're found during the repair. The repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
